Rainbow helps teens prepare for the future Unless a child decides to remain in the care of the Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS), each foster child “ages out” of the system at the age of 18. At the national level, an estimated 40% of foster youth are homeless within 18 months of leaving the foster care system. Rainbow Children’s Home wants to reduce these statistics by teaching the residents essential life skills they will need as adults. Instruction is provided in areas such as the following: HOME MANAGEMENT HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMUNITY SERVICES MONEY MANAGEMENT SOCIALIZATION SKILLS TRANSPORTATION CLOTHING MAINTENANCE COMPUTER SKILLS GROOMING DRIVERS MANUAL/TEST LEGAL SYSTEM “I’m grateful for those staff that took the time to help me in any area I needed help in. I learned how to write checks, use a computer, and how to live independently. The staff also helped me to become a better person and how to have respect for others.”- resident |
