PETS in Action (Pet Enabled Therapy Services) is a non-profit volunteer organization designed to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged persons in rural North Georgia through the use of Animal Assisted Therapy. The bi-monthly visits that PETS volunteers make to Rainbow Children's Home provide the girls with physically & emotionally safe interactions with certified pet therapy dogs. The girls play, hug, and work with the dogs which provides unconditional love & attention for the girls in the natural back yard setting of RCH. It is not uncommon to have a dog handler teach the girls basic obedience commands, which they then can practice with a dog. Dressing the dogs up in various clothes is also great fun for the girls and offers a positive diversion. Throwing the ball and walking the dogs offers great exercise for all involved, and the one-on-one conversations about dogs in the girls' lives can help turn a bad day into a good one.
