United Karate Studio Offers Instruction to RCH Residents Since February, residents from RCH have been provided karate instruction by Brad Bowelle, owner of United Karate Studios (UKS), Dahlonega “I'm very happy to be a part of the program that helps ‘our’ girls grow and learn. All of us at the United Karate Studio of Dahlonega are excited about any opportunity to reach into the community and make a difference in people lives.” – Brad Bowelle, owner of United Karate Studios (UKS), Dahlonega About Brad Brad Bowelle started training with United Karate Studios in the fall of 1986 as a college student attending Tennessee Technological University located in Cookeville Tennessee. He persued martial arts because he was bullied and picked on in high school. So, he studied martial arts to gain self-confidence and to effectively learn how to defend himself. In 1988, he became a student instructor and taught introductory and beginner classes to students until he earned his blackbelt in November 1990. Ever since, his goal has been to help teach others how to not be a victim. He taught for several years as an Assistant Instructor until he found his way to Northeast Georgia working for a company in Gainesville. He connected with the United Karate family in this area in 2002 by helping teach students for a legendary United martial-artist and Instructor in Gainesville - Mr. Jim Haymore. On a chance meeting with another long time friend and instructor named Jimmy Lint, Brad was asked to help as an Assistant Instructor for the UKS of Dahlonega starting in August of 2005. Due to challenges that pulled Jimmy away from his commitment to the school, Jimmy and Brad met to discuss the transition of ownership of the school. Brad was offered an opportunity of a lifetime starting in August of 2006 and he assumed full control and ownership of the United Karate Studio of Dahlonega. Brad’s goal was to cultivate a new martial-arts family after having only 6 students. Today, UKS has an enrollment of nearly 40 active students! UKS has been in the Greenbrier shopping center since October 2006 and continues to grow and serve a need for high-quality martial-arts instruction for Lumpkin and surrounding counties. In March of 2008, they promoted the first-ever blackbelts from the UKS of Dahlonega. UKS expects to have two more students promoted by March of 2009. "The UKS of Dahlonega builds leaders one Blackbelt at a time.”- Brad Bowelle RCH would like to thank Brad and the UKS family for your support of our home and residents! |
