What is the operating budget?
Rainbow Children’s Home maintains a very low annual operating budget of approximately $400,000.

Where do you get your money?
The majority of funding comes from a DFCS or DJJ per diem. We also receive funding from Lumpkin County, United Way, grants, and private sources which include individuals, businesses, and churches.

Do the children go back home to their families?
It is the goal of Rainbow Children's Home to reunited children with their families whenever possible. Unfortunately, less than 20% of children in our care are able to return to their parents. Some children may go to live with extended family members or may be adopted by a family.

How long do the children stay?
The length of stay varies according to the child’s need. Many children stay between 6 and 12 months.

Who cares for the children?
Care and supervision of the children is provided by a team of trained and caring residential specialists. (Link to Residential Specialist). We provide 24 hour “awake” supervision of the children to accommodate their needs.

Why do the children come to Rainbow Children’s Home instead of a foster home?
RCH believes that every child deserves a family. Unfortunately, there are not enough foster homes willing to accept teenagers. Many children who reside at Rainbow Children’s Home have greater needs than can be met in a regular foster home. Some children also have difficulties adapting to a new “family” and are able to function better in a group environment.

Why are the children referred?
Children are referred to Rainbow Children’s Home for various reasons including abuse (physical, emotional, sexual) and neglect.

Where do the children come from?
Referrals come from the state Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS) and the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). The majority of children are referred from North Georgia. However, children have been referred to the Ranch from more than 30 counties in the state.
